Nick Fallon and Jeff Stevens take on what they consider an easy case - taking photgraphs of a man cheating on his wife - but they don't expect to see the guy shot down right in front of them . What follows is a bewildering series of events - - and who can they believe? The dead man's fiancee, her gay brother, her less than loving father, or his wife - the woman who hired them in the first place? When the fiancee turns up missing, Nick and Jeff have their hands full trying to sort the truth from the lies - and when Nick is left to face dangerous gunmen alone, who knows what the outcome will be.

3.5 stars - A fun read and a nice return for private detective Nick Fallon, along with his loving partner Eric, and his fellow PI Jeff (and Jeff's partner Peter. Those guys have their own book series too that starts with Portrait of Phillip.)

This is the fourth book in the Nick Fallon series, and it follows Nick and Jeff tailing one philandering husband, only to see the cheater assassinated right in front of them. The murder leads our detectives on to another case when the victim's mistress disappears, and a whole slew of shady dealings rise to the surface.

At 176 pages, it's a pretty fast read, but I appreciate that Bowie pushed the mystery until almost the very end. (It's one of those, "you think it's this way, but no! It's this other way!")

Probably my favorite part of the book (and the series overall) was revisiting with Nick and Eric. They have a sweet, very committed relationship, and it's a nice change of pace to read about a couple who are very together. Also I liked the character consistency as you saw how they changed from the third book, and how those changes strengthened their bond.

I'm less a fan of Bowie's style of switching POVs, whether within a scene or switching to side character perspectives. But I'm never a fan of side character perspectives, and in this case, I found them less interesting than the MCs.

In the end, I found this a fast comfortable read where you got to revisit with some good characters. If you're already on board the Nick Fallon train, you will probably enjoy this book. If you're interested in checking it out, I would recommend hitting book 1, A Deadly Game.

LOVED IT!!! <3

I just recently finished the first three books in the Nick Fallon series and I'm in love with the guys! So this new story is like a perfect Christmas gift for me. It doesn't disappoint!! The mistery's interesting and engaging and I just love Nick and Eric's steady relationship! In the previous story Nick had learned (the hard way) not to take unnecessary risks and respect Eric's concerns and now it's Eric's turn to come to terms with Nick's professional risks. I love how understanding and attentive he is <3 These two guys just so good together! ))))
The story was weak and did not hold my attention. Also, I did not enjoy the male-on-male erotica. It did nothing to enhance the story.
I loved the complexity of the story and the twists and turns it kept taking. I hope to read some more of this writer's work.
I liked this book the characters were fun and the story was interesting. I would read this author again anytime.
This was not my favorite from this writer. I think the story could have been fine tuned, and that may be something the editors could have helped with. I still really like this author.
Very good and well done addition to the series. The mystery was very well written, the author didn't give anything away. It was also nice to see where the characters are in terms or personal and professional relationship.
